US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle

.45-70. 32.5" barrel length. SN: 245186. Mfg. ca. 1883. Blued metal finish with case colored breechblock mounting walnut straight wrist stock with full length handguard retained by two barrel bands. Single shot trapdoor action rifle mounting adjustable R for rifle marked Buffington rear and pinned front blade sights. Muzzle and breech are still in the white. Item features a low-arch breechblock, stacking swivels to upper barrel band, further swivel to the two-piece trigger, and a three click tumbler. Breechblock is marked US/MODEL/1873, correct for early production 1884 rifles. Lockplate struck with {US Army Eagle} followed by U.S/SPRINGFIELD. Left side of the barrel is marked V/P/{Eaglehead} with a further P mark. Wrist exhibits a circle P mark while the left wrist retains a crisp boxed SWP/1883 cartouche for inspector Samuel W. Porter. Both barrel bands display crisp U stamps while the buttplate is struck US. Comes with a blued steel ramrod. {ANTIQUE}

Condition
Very Fine. Bore is Bright with strong rifling throughout. Metal finish shows grease residue to seams. Some thinning to the blue, patinated streaks, and scratches to the barrel. Buttplate finish thinning with brown patina over the edges. Some patched brown patina on barrel bands and triggerguard. Stock exhibits scattered light dents and scratches with a raised granular structure. Upper edges of the stock rounded near frame.
